TAKE THE WATERS AT THE HISTORIC WARM SPRINGS POOLS

For hundreds of years, people from all over the world have traveled to the Warm Springs Valley to “take the waters” at the Warm Springs Pools for the health benefits as well as the relaxing tranquility. The mineral springs bubble up from the earth at a temperature of 98 degrees and over 1,700,000 gallons of water flow through the historic 19th century newly renovated bath-houses. A truly unique experience that’s not to be missed. For reservations, contact The Omni Homestead Resort.

EXPERIENCE FOODLORE FRIDAYS

A guest favorite event offered seasonally on the grounds of Oakley Farm in Warm Springs. The weekly event features an on-line market to pre-order locally produced provisions for your weekend, (with limited local items available on-site), a cider & wine bar, pop-up kitchen with visiting regional chefs and food-makers, and often live music. Find a seat in the North Stable or bring a blanket to picnic on the lawn – this is the perfect way to experience the local flavor and kick off a weekend visit to the area.

FISH THE JACKSON

The Jackson River is well known as the best fly-fishing destination in Virginia! Warm Springs Cottages offers two properties on the Jackson that offer private stretches of stocked water for fly-fishing enthusiasts. In addition, there are many wonderful public places to fish in the area – Hidden Valley, Poor Farm Road, Blowing Springs and more. Or contact a local guide to access additional private sections of the river or float the tailwaters of the Jackson below Lake Moomaw.

SWIM IN A MOUNTAIN LAKE

Bath County is home to not one but two mountain lakes where you can swim, hike, bike, fish or paddle! Douthat State Park was created in the 1930’s and built by the CCC. The park has remained virtually unchanged since then and offers a swimming beach, paddle boats, miles of hiking trails, mountain biking trails and fishing. It is a great place to spend the day while visiting Bath County. https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/douthat

In addition, you may want to visit Lake Moomaw, created by the Gathright Dam which backs up over 12 miles of the Jackson River to form the lake. With over 2500 acres of lake surface and a depth of 152 ft, this is the perfect outdoor enthusiast’s destination. There are swimming beaches, hiking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas and more. Launch your fishing boat, kayak or canoe from the marina and enjoy the day in one of the most pristine areas, surrounded by nature. https://dwr.virginia.gov/waterbody/lake-moomaw/
